What to include in your resume

Contact Information
You will need to have your contact details clearly stated, so that an employer is able to contact you.  Ideally you will include the following;
Name
Address
Home Phone and/or Mobile
Email Address

Objective (Optional)
Only use this option if you are going for specific types of roles, otherwise if you are sending it out to numerous positions, you risk being in conflict with the actual position you are applying for.
You could make the objective more general as to what you are wanting to achieve rather than a particular job itself.

Skills Summary
This is an important part of the resume and gives the employer reading it, a good idea of what you are able to do and what experience you have had. Eg: W4W – Advanced, MYOB – Basic

Education
Here you should list the name of the institution you studied, the dates you were there and what the particular course/unit of study was eg: TAFE – Marketing Diploma 2006 – 2008

Further Training and/or Certifications
This is optional, however can be a good way to mention any certification or training you have undertaken, whether relevant to your career or not. Eg: Cert 1V Training, OH&S Certification 2007

Acheivements and/or Accomplishments
This section is optional also, although can be a good way to show a potential employee what achievements you have made at particular jobs and in your career to date.  It works best written under the appropriate company it relates to.

Work History or Professional Experience
Probably the most important part of your resume, is to list your positions in reverse chronological order, starting with your most recent role.  You will need to clearly state the company, the position you held, the length of time spent at the company and the main duties involved.

References
This is completely optional but suggested and include work references rather than personal.  Please also try to add the persons name, title, position and company as well as their phone and/or email addresses.

Hints
Always a good idea to number the pages on your resume and footer your name on each page.
Bullet points make for easy reading
Resume’s should be clear & concise – usually between 2 and 4 pages
